Comfy Agent Builds ComfyUI Node Graphs From Text, but Local GPU Support Is Missing

Comfy Organization has put an AI assistant inside ComfyUI. Comfy Agent reads the node graph on your canvas, sees the connections, parameters and error logs, then builds, edits and runs workflows from a written instruction. It is live on Comfy Cloud. Desktop support, local GPU access and access to your own file system are not shipped yet.

What the agent does on the canvas

ComfyUI has grown to more than four million active users and over twelve thousand community-contributed components. Most of that work has been manual. You drag nodes, wire them together, set parameters, read the error log when a sampler refuses to run, and fix it yourself.

Comfy Agent takes over part of that loop, as reported by Digital Production on 9 October. It sits on the same canvas as the human and works in real time. The agent parses visual assets already placed in the graph, the way nodes are connected, error logs and parameter settings. You type what you want in ordinary language, and it adjusts the graph or builds a new one, then executes it.

Up to five chat threads run in parallel, each keeping a full context history. That matters in practice. A small team can keep an upscaling pipeline in one thread and a voice-cloning chain in another without the agent mixing the two conversations together.

Cloud first, desktop and local GPUs later

At launch, Comfy Agent runs on Comfy Cloud. The company says desktop support, local GPU integration and local file system access are coming in upcoming releases. No dates have been given.

That gap is the interesting part. ComfyUI's main attraction for many users is that it runs on hardware they own, and a workflow that never leaves the machine is easy to defend in a client contract. A browser-based agent that reads your files and rewrites your graph moves part of that activity into a hosted service. The launch material does not state where Comfy Cloud processes or stores data, which is the first question a European studio should ask before uploading client footage or voice samples.

We run local models on an RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB in AI Arena, and the pattern is familiar: cloud convenience arrives first, local parity arrives later and often with a narrower feature set. Anyone planning to make agent-driven graph building part of a production pipeline should treat the local-GPU promise as a roadmap item, not a current capability.

Agent Skills and external assistants

Alongside the assistant itself, Comfy introduced public and private Agent Skills. A studio can encode a standard routine once, for example a fixed character-consistency or colour-matching step, and reuse it across projects and team members instead of rebuilding the same wiring by hand.

The second connection point is Comfy MCP, built on the Model Context Protocol. External assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor or Claude Desktop can connect to ComfyUI and run local or cloud workflows. For developers already working inside one of those tools, that means a coding assistant can trigger a generative pipeline without switching applications.

What it costs

Comfy Agent is free to try on Comfy Cloud. Beyond the trial, usage is governed by subscription and token-based billing, according to the launch material. No European price list has been published, and no per-token rate is listed, so there is no honest way yet to calculate what a single finished image or clip costs through the agent.

Two things are worth separating. European consumers pay VAT at their own country's rate on top of any listed price, so a headline dollar figure is never the final number for an EU buyer. And token-based metering means cost tracks the complexity of the workflow, not the number of outputs. A short prompt that rebuilds a forty-node graph can be cheaper than a long conversation about why the graph failed.

EU labelling rules still apply to the output

Transparency obligations for AI-generated content under Article 50 of the AI Act are active across member states, together with AI literacy requirements. In practice, the duty attaches to the published output, not to the tool that produced it. If a ComfyUI workflow generates an image, a video clip or a synthetic voice track that you publish in the EU, disclosure obligations come with it. Automating the graph with an agent does not change that.

Since 2 August 2026, the European Commission and the EU AI Office also hold full enforcement powers over general-purpose AI providers, including mandatory technical evaluations and fines of up to 3% of global annual turnover or EUR 15 million. Whether a hosted agent feature falls under a specific provider obligation depends on the model behind it, not on ComfyUI's open-source core. European teams using it for paid client work should get that answer in writing from the vendor rather than inferring it.

Does Comfy Agent work with a workflow file I already built?

The agent operates on the canvas it shares with you. The launch description covers building, editing, optimising and executing node graphs in place, including graphs that already contain assets. On a desktop installation there is nothing to operate yet, because the company lists desktop support as an upcoming release.

Can I trigger ComfyUI workflows from Claude Code or Cursor?

Yes, through Comfy MCP. The Model Context Protocol integration lets those external assistants connect to ComfyUI and run local or cloud workflows, which means a coding agent can start a generative pipeline without opening a second application.

Is Comfy Agent available in the EU?

Comfy Cloud is a web service reachable from EU countries, and the agent is free to try there. Comfy has not published European pricing, and the launch material does not say where cloud data is processed or stored.

Comfy Agent ships with five parallel chat threads, public and private Agent Skills, and cloud execution today. Desktop support, local GPU integration and local file system access remain listed as upcoming, without a date attached.
