How do you keep AI research notes actually usable?

I've been using an assistant to triage papers and draft literature summaries for a few months. The output is fine in the moment, but my notes have turned into a pile of disconnected paragraphs I never revisit. They're too smooth to scan and too generic to cite.

Curious how others handle this. Do you constrain the output format
