OpenAI is preparing the first phone with ChatGPT, Meta is betting big on AI agents, and Anthropic is heading toward a trillion dollars

The world of artificial intelligence is experiencing one of the most hectic weeks of this year. According to a trusted analyst, OpenAI is accelerating the development of its own ChatGPT phone, Meta is preparing a massive offensive in the field of agentic AI for its billions of users, and Anthropic is negotiating a new funding round that would catapult it above the $900 billion mark. Let's take a look at three stories that are shaping the future of the AI industry right now.

OpenAI is preparing its own phone: ChatGPT gets a hardware form

OpenAI has long ceased to be just a software company. According to respected supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company is "accelerating" the development of its own phone and wants to begin mass production in early 2027. The information was brought by MacRumors and subsequently picked up by all major tech media, including The Verge.

The phone will run on a modified version of the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 chip, which is expected to be unveiled this fall. Its main weapon will be an improved image signal processor (ISP) with HDR technology, indicating that OpenAI is betting on visual perception of the surrounding world — meaning the phone will "see" and understand what is in front of the camera.

Other specifications include LPDDR6 memory, UFS 5.0 storage, and a dual NPU architecture that will allow simultaneous processing of language and visual tasks. That is exactly the combination needed for a device meant to function as a full-fledged AI assistant in your pocket.

Target: 30 million units. Ambition on par with Samsung

Kuo estimates that over 2027 and 2028, OpenAI could sell around 30 million units of the phone. That's a quantity comparable to sales of Samsung's flagship models, and for the company's first hardware product, it is an extraordinarily ambitious target.

Interestingly, OpenAI initially toyed with the idea of an AI device designed by Jony Ive, Apple's legendary designer. But a phone makes more commercial sense — the smartphone market is enormous and users are accustomed to paying for them. For Czech users, it will be crucial whether the phone offers full Czech localization right from the start, or whether — like other AI products — it will initially be available primarily in English.

Meta is betting everything on agentic AI

Mark Zuckerberg doesn't want to be left behind. Financial Times and Reuters reported that Meta is intensively working on an advanced agentic AI assistant for its platforms — namely Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, which together are used by billions of people.

Agentic AI means the assistant won't just answer questions. It will be able to independently perform tasks: book flights, manage calendars, shop, or handle messages. Meta is drawing inspiration in this direction from, among others, the OpenClaw project, a research framework for agents that control a computer like a human.

For Meta, it's a logical step. The company possesses a vast amount of user data, and its Llama models rank among the best open-source AI in the world. Combining these two strengths could create a personal assistant that truly knows the context of your digital life.

Anthropic on the road to a trillion: Claude is crushing the competition in enterprise

While OpenAI is dealing with slowing ChatGPT growth and internal turbulence, its main rival Anthropic is experiencing a meteoric rise. According to Bloomberg, the company is negotiating a new funding round with a valuation exceeding $900 billion (roughly CZK 20 trillion). For comparison: OpenAI closed a round last month at a valuation of $852 billion.

On secondary markets, Anthropic shares are trading at prices that would value the company at up to a trillion dollars. And this despite the fact that in February of this year, the company's valuation was "only" $380 billion — meaning its value has more than doubled in three months.

Why do investors believe more in Anthropic?

There are several reasons. Anthropic's Claude dominates the enterprise segment — companies choose it for coding, data analysis, and process automation. According to the Financial Times, some OpenAI investors are even experiencing "buyer's remorse" because Anthropic has meanwhile been securing billion-dollar contracts from corporate customers.

The contrast in approach to safety also plays a role. While OpenAI signed a controversial contract with the Pentagon, Anthropic refused it — and this move paradoxically helped it with parts of the market. Investors perceive a responsible approach to AI as a competitive advantage, not a burden.

Moreover, Anthropic has just filed a preliminary prospectus for an IPO, formally beginning its journey to the stock market. If everything goes according to plan, the public listing could be the largest tech IPO in history.

What does this mean for the average user — and for the Czech Republic?

The trio of stories shows that the AI industry is entering a new phase. It's no longer just about chatbots — companies are competing over who will control hardware (phones), who will gain the most users through existing platforms (Meta), and who will be the most valuable AI company in the world (Anthropic vs. OpenAI).

For Czech businesses and users, this means two things. First: competition drives prices down and quality up. Second: Czech localization is becoming a standard even among premium AI products. If OpenAI indeed launches a ChatGPT phone, it will be interesting to see whether it also reaches the Czech market — and whether it will be accompanied by full Czech language support.

When exactly will the OpenAI phone be released?

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, mass production will begin in early 2027. The exact release date has not yet been announced. The first batch will likely head to the US and Asian markets.

Is Anthropic actually more valuable than OpenAI?

It depends on how you measure it. OpenAI last closed a funding round at a valuation of $852 billion. Anthropic is now negotiating a round that would value it at more than $900 billion. On secondary markets, Anthropic shares are trading at prices corresponding to roughly a trillion dollars. However, the new round has not officially been closed yet.

Will the Meta AI assistant be available in Czech?

Meta has not yet officially announced which languages its agentic AI assistant will be available in. Given that Llama models support Czech and Meta operates its social networks in the Czech Republic, it is likely that Czech will be supported — the question is only whether right from launch.
