Claude Mythos: Anthropic's 'Dangerous' Cybersecurity Weapon – Why Don't We Have Access to It?

Anthropic introduces Claude Mythos – a model so powerful in cybersecurity that the company refuses to make it available to the general public. While select American corporations under Project Glasswing use its capabilities to strengthen their defenses, the rest of the world – including Australia and Europe – remains at constant risk that attackers may acquire these technologies before defenders do.

Listen to this article:

The world of artificial intelligence is currently at a point where the line between a tool for creation and a tool for destruction is blurring. Anthropic, a company known for its emphasis on ethics and safety (so-called AI safety), recently announced the existence of Claude Mythos. This model is not designed for writing emails or generating creative texts. Its purpose is deep code analysis, finding hidden vulnerabilities, and the ability to chain small flaws into complex attacks. It is a tool that can "see" weaknesses in millions of lines of code that a human expert could not catch in a lifetime.

The Duality of Power: Defense vs. Offense

The main problem with Claude Mythos is not its ineffectiveness, but precisely its extreme effectiveness. According to reports from ABC News, the model is considered too dangerous for public sale. Anthropic decided to implement a strategy it called Project Glasswing. Instead of mass distribution, it provides access only to a handful of selected American giants, such as Microsoft, Apple, Cisco, or Amazon Web Services.

This approach has a clear goal: to allow these companies to use Mythos to test and strengthen their own infrastructure before these capabilities fall into the hands of cybercriminals. However, as Alastair MacGibbon, former government cybersecurity advisor, points out, a massive protection gap emerges. If American companies have access to Mythos's "digital shield," but banks or energy grids in Australia or Europe do not, we become vulnerable to attacks that these technologies can enable.

Comparison: Claude Mythos vs. Other Models

To understand the difference, we need to look at what current competitors offer. Standard models like GPT-4o from OpenAI or Gemini 1.5 Pro from Google are multimodal assistants. They can write code, explain algorithms, and help with debugging. However, they are designed to be useful for a wide range of tasks and have strong safety filters (guardrails) that prevent them from generating harmful code.

Impact on the European and Czech Market

What does this mean for us in the Czech Republic? First and foremost, it must be emphasized that Claude Mythos is not available to ordinary users or Czech companies. Anthropic has not yet announced any localization for this specific model into Czech, and given its nature, it is a tool for expert cybersecurity work.

From a regulatory perspective, the situation in the EU is very sensitive. The EU AI Act, the world's first comprehensive artificial intelligence regulation, classifies high-risk systems (e.g., those affecting critical infrastructure) under strict oversight. If a model like Mythos were to spread in Europe, it would have to meet extreme requirements for transparency and security auditing. For Czech companies that rely on software supplied by global partners, this means they will increasingly have to trust the certifications of these tools, because implementing Mythos on a local scale is (for now) unrealistic.

For the Czech cybersecurity sector and developers, this is a warning signal. While we are learning how to use AI to write better applications, on the other side, systems capable of systematically breaking those applications are emerging. Companies in the Czech Republic must invest in AI-driven defense to keep pace with the technological shift that the Mythos model brings.

Pricing and Availability of Standard Anthropic Services

For those who want to use regular Claude models (which are available in the Czech Republic via web interface or API), the current conditions are as follows:

  • Claude Free Tier: Free (limited number of messages per day).
  • Claude Pro: Approximately 20 USD (around 460 CZK) per month – provides higher limits and access to the latest models.
  • Claude API: Pay-per-use (tokens), prices vary by model (Haiku, Sonnet, Opus).

Note: Claude Mythos has no public price list, as its distribution is strictly controlled.

Conclusion: A New Arms Race

What lies ahead of us is not just a technological shift, but a new type of digital arms race. Claude Mythos shows that AI is no longer just about "intelligence," but about the ability to control digital space. For the average user, nothing will change – your chatbot will remain a friendly assistant. But for security experts and government institutions, it is clear: AI in cybersecurity is no longer a choice, but a necessity for survival.

Can I buy or download Claude Mythos for my company in the Czech Republic?

No, Claude Mythos is currently not available to the public or to ordinary commercial entities. Anthropic provides it only to selected partners under the Project Glasswing framework (e.g., Microsoft, Apple).

Is Claude Mythos better than GPT-4o in programming?

While GPT-4o is an excellent general-purpose model for writing and fixing code, Claude Mythos is specialized in finding critical security vulnerabilities and creating exploits. In these specific tasks, Mythos likely has a much higher success rate.

How does this affect the security of my data when using regular Claude?

Using the standard Claude model (Sonnet or Opus) is safe and subject to standard privacy protections. Mythos, however, is a different category of tool focused on infrastructure-level attack/defense, not on processing user data.
