Anthropic is going public: The path to a trillion-dollar valuation and what it means for Claude users

Anthropic, creator of the popular AI assistant Claude, has officially initiated the process of going public (IPO). The company filed a confidential S-1 notice with the US SEC, revealing an astronomical valuation of approximately 965 billion dollars. If the planned IPO in October 2026 is successful, Anthropic will become one of the most valuable technology entities in history, closely behind giants like SpaceX or OpenAI.

The world of artificial intelligence is currently at a point where experimental laboratories are becoming global economic powers. Anthropic, a company that positioned itself as a "safety counterweight" to OpenAI, is no longer just a research project. It is a financial force whose revenue growth from 1 billion dollars in December 2024 to a staggering 47 billion dollars in May 2026 is unprecedented in the history of the software industry.

From Safe Research to Financial Giant

Anthropic's journey began in 2021 when a group of scientists led by brothers Dario and Daniela Amodei left OpenAI. Their motivation was not just technological advancement, but primarily a deep disagreement in the approach to AI safety. While other companies raced to deploy new features, Anthropic focused on the concept of Constitutional AI (constitutional AI). This approach teaches models self-evaluation based on a set of principles, not just human instructions, which increases the predictability and safety of responses.

This emphasis on ethics and safety proved to be a brilliant business move. In an era where regulations like the EU AI Act are beginning to genuinely impact the European market, Anthropic appears as a partner that meets strict standards of transparency and risk control. This makes them a preferred choice for large corporations in Europe and the USA.

Claude Code: Engine of Growth

While the Claude chat interface is known to the general public, the product Claude Code has become the true engine of financial success. This agentic programming tool, introduced in mid-2025, achieved annual revenues of 2.5 billion dollars in just nine months. According to current data, Claude Code accounts for approximately 4% of all public commits on the GitHub platform. For developers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, this means that a tool with a high degree of autonomy is becoming a standard member of technology teams.

Comparison: Claude vs. Competition

For both the average user and businesses, it is crucial to understand where Anthropic stands in the hierarchy of capabilities. While OpenAI with its GPT-4o model (and future versions) bets on multimodal versatility and ecosystem, Claude maintains its position as best in logical reasoning, natural language writing, and working with extensive contexts.

Feature Claude (Anthropic) GPT-4o (OpenAI) Gemini (Google)
Strengths Logic, textual nuance, safety Multimodality, voice, ecosystem Integration with Google Workspace, context
Constitutional AI Yes (main pillar) Partially (RLHF) Partially
Availability in CZ Yes (web and API) Yes (web and API) Yes (web and API)
Price (Pro version) approx. 20 USD / month approx. 20 USD / month approx. 20 USD / month

Note: Prices are indicative; in the Czech Republic, payment is made in USD or EUR depending on the payment method.

What does this mean for Czech users and businesses?

For Czech entrepreneurs and developers, Anthropic's IPO brings several crucial signals:

  • Infrastructure Stability: Going public means a huge influx of capital, which will allow Anthropic to invest in its own hardware and reduce dependence on cloud providers like AWS or Google Cloud. This will ensure higher service availability in our region as well.
  • Localization: Claude demonstrates excellent capabilities in Czech, with its writing style often considered less "robotic" than that of the competition. With increasing funding, even better optimization for European languages can be expected.
  • Regulatory Compliance: For companies in the EU concerned about the legal implications of using AI, Anthropic, thanks to its "AI Safety" philosophy, is a safe choice that better meets the requirements for model explainability.

Financial Context and Risks

Despite dazzling growth, risks cannot be ignored. Anthropic reported a loss of 5.6 billion dollars in 2024, primarily due to extreme costs for model training and the purchase of computational power (compute). It is estimated that the company will have to invest an additional 19 billion dollars in infrastructure. Investors, therefore, see enormous potential, but also high capital intensity.

Thus, 2026 is becoming a historic year for tech IPOs. Alongside Anthropic and OpenAI, we are also observing preparations for the IPO of SpaceX, which indicates that the market is ready to absorb record volumes of capital.

How can I, as a retail investor, buy Anthropic shares?

Currently (June 2026), Anthropic shares are not publicly traded on the stock exchange. Before the planned IPO in October 2026, access to shares is only possible for institutional investors through secondary platforms. Ordinary investors will be able to buy shares only after the official listing on Nasdaq/NYSE.

Is Claude available in Czech?

Yes, the Claude family models support the Czech language. The model handles not only translations but also the creation of creative text and document analysis in Czech with a high degree of grammatical correctness and naturalness.

What is "Constitutional AI" and why is it important?

It is a training method where the model is not just given a list of forbidden topics, but an entire "constitutional" document with principles (e.g., do no harm, be honest). The model then decides for itself whether its response is in line with these principles, leading to safer and more consistent results.
